This video is a recording of the free online webinar with ARINGO MBA Admissions Consulting on July 19, 2019. It focused on how to choose and apply to top 10 MBA’s, and why that’s a good career move.

Motivation for getting a top 10 MBA?

The questions everybody is asking. To answer it, let’s examine the motivation of most MBA prospects. We have the switchers: people looking for a career switch, like Shimri himself, who moved from software development to business development. Then there are the accelerators: professionals who would like to move to the next level in their career. Next, the future entrepreneurs. An MBA will give you the business background and skill needed to develop your own business ideas, and grow them into a profitable venture. Lastly, some people are interested in academia. Some schools offer more practical skills and are designed to boost your ongoing career.

Why should one do an MBA?

Let’s start from the obvious. An MBA degree is an excellent investment that may result in a 6-digit starting salary. It is also a great way to accelerate or completely change your career. It presents many opportunities to work internationally. And finally, it offers a great way to network and make new friends and business partners, but also expand the way you perceive the world around you.

How should one pick a school?

Several factors should be considered before applying for an MBA. Probably the most important one is the location. The location will determine your career prospects as well as professional and personal contacts. School ranking can also come into play, especially when applying for senior positions in big companies in certain industries and regions.

Although most schools offer a variety of courses, some specialize in specific industries. Aim for those that focus on the area in which you want to specialize. Before applying see what courses each school offers, and based on that information, make an informative decision.

Another factor to consider is the school culture. Think about where you would fit best. Consider also the schools’ teaching methods and class size. Last but not least, think how schools approach students.

What are top schools looking for?

According to Shimri, “You want to show in your CV and essays that you are smart. That you can take ownership of certain things in your current career.” Top schools are looking for candidates who are smart and dependable. Schools also want to see that your application demonstrates genuine interest in them. Tell them your reasons for applying. Whether it be a specific course, a teacher, or something else, just be honest. Don’t copy and paste the same letter to every school you apply to.

Any international experience (either work or university) is also considered a valuable asset. Finally, candidates are expected to demonstrate leadership potential, academic excellence, and professional experience. But there’s always room for even more personalization by sharing details about your interests, hobbies or volunteering.

How should one apply?

First comes the registration fees. These are non-refundable fees, payable in order for your application to be accepted. Most schools will require you to have an undergraduate degree. Non-native English speakers are also required to submit a language test score. Other mandatory things are your CV and a number of essays. Recommendations can also be part of the application package.
