If you are interested in doing an MBA, this UnimyPrep webinar will give you some insights on how to get into a top MBA program. The first part of the webinar goes through the basics of why you should consider a top 10 MBA program, and the second part presents tips on improving your MBA application. Shimri Winters from ARINGO MBA Admissions Consulting goes over the most crucial points in the application, the importance of the GMAT score, and what business schools look for in applicants.
Shimri is head of ARINGO. He is a London Business School graduate and used to interview MBA candidates for the London Business School. ARINGO was founded 18 years ago and helps prospective students with their applications to top MBA programs at schools such as Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, NYU, UCLA, Berkeley, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, London Business School, INSEAD, and many more.
ARINGO assists candidates in school selection, chances estimation, project planning and strategy formulation, CV preparation and essay writing, letters of recommendation, interview preparation, scholarship submission, and negotiation.
Reasons to do a top 10 MBA program
In the first part of the webinar, Shimri highlights the reasons behind choosing to do an MBA. He notes that there are usually three main types of motivation for deciding on an MBA path.
- Career switchers want to pivot their career in a different direction, but not in an entirely new field.
- Accelerators are happy in their industry, but they want to pursue a higher position or have a bigger seat at the table.
- Future entrepreneurs want to start or run a business, but they don’t know how to do it or have the idea fully developed yet.
All three are valid reasons to want to pursue an MBA, and a business degree will help achieve your goals, whatever they might be.
How do I choose where to apply?
There are many considerations on how to choose where to apply, but Shimri highlights two key factors you need to consider when choosing where to apply. The first one is the location. You need to decide where you want to live during your studies. A lot of the top schools can offer you really good MBA programs but with only one major difference – their location.
The second key factor is what you are planning to do after you graduate. Ask yourself where your career aspirations will be best served. Then consider the school’s culture, the class size, and the teaching methods, among other things.
What is the MBA application process?
Applying to business school is quite a long process. There are four prerequisites for most schools. You will need:
- Undergraduate degree transcripts
- Registration fee
- English language test certificate such as TOEFL and IELTS
- Aptitude test score such as GMAT or GRE
Once you have these four prerequisites, you can apply. To do that you will also need:
- CV
- 1-7 essays
- 2 letters of recommendation
- Online application
This process is different per school and ARINGO recommends around three months to work on your application, ideally, after you have taken the GMAT.
Tips for a fantastic application
In the second part of the webinar Shimri shares seven insightful strategies for MBA admission. While each school has its differences, they all look for similar things from their applicants and these strategies will be useful to anyone who wishes to pursue an MBA degree.
