Re: Will MOOCs kill traditional full-time MBAs?

Here are some of my thoughts on whether the MOOCs will replace traditional education.

Technology affects all areas of our daily life. It has various implications on education and online education is just one of them. With over 13,000 programmes workdwide, graduate business education is a growing field itself. Growth is based on and regulated by demand. When there is interest there is offering, but then, the actual demand will determine the provision and some of the players in the field will naturally disappear.
People who look for MBAs are not a homogenous group. They have different learning styles, different expectations to their MBA experience, different post-graduation goals, budgets, etc. All these factors affect the choice of programme types. Those who prefer the full-time MBA usually:
- Want to take a “full-time” break and look for a career or industry change
- Want to build a new business network in a certain region/country where they will do their MBA
- Value interpersonal communication and face-to-face contact
- Are willing to engage in extracurricular activities, social and networking events during a full-time MBA programme, internships and onsite projects
These people will be willing to pay the price for a tuition fee, living and travel expenses and commit one (in Europe) or two years (in the USA) for their MBA studies.
Lower cost, online learning, no travelling, flexible schedule are an attraction for just a segment of the MBA bound professionals.

What is your opinion? Do you have experience with online education? Which is your preference - online or face-to-face learning?
