Entrepreneurial Opportunities (MOOC)

Entrepreneurial Opportunities (MOOC)

A lot of people have business ideas that look great on paper, but how can one be sure that the ideas are going to have real success in life? This online business course will teach you how to put entrepreneurial thinking into practice and provide you with the tools and frameworks to successfully identify and evaluate business opportunities.

About this course

The course starts with an overview of the entrepreneurial process so that you can identify what constitutes exceptional business opportunities and understand how to evaluate their underlying characteristics. You’ll consider the dimensions that affect decision-making about new business ideas and put key decisions to the test on your own business ideas. You’ll learn how to gauge the quality of your business idea or opportunity and assess the ability of the team you bring together to execute the venture.

It is very important to learn how to make sense of ‘gut feel’ when deciding whether to invest in a potential business and practise using rules of thumb (heuristics) to make such decisions, based on your own experiences. Through a series of practical investigations, you’ll develop a collage or ‘mental template’ from which to examine potential business investment opportunities.

You will have the chance to work with the expert team at the Entrepreneurship, Commercialisation and Innovation Centre (ECIC) at the University of Adelaide. They have worked with entrepreneurs like you and have facilitated the establishment of many successful businesses. You can be confident that what you will learn in this course is road-tested and high-impact - not just theoretical.

What you'll learn

•    Use rules of thumb, frameworks, and tools to evaluate your best business idea. •    Evaluate new opportunities, drawing on your own experiences and knowledge. •    Build an entrepreneurial team that will complement the opportunity you have identified.
