Unlocking Your Employability (MOOC)

Unlocking Your Employability (MOOC)

You already have a university degree, but you feel that something is missing that could help you maximize your career success? Maybe this online course will give you a clue. A degree is necessary to secure a good job, but employers are looking for much more than that. The potential employer wants to see what you can offer BEYOND your credentials.

About the course

This is not a standard business course on writing job applications and practicing interview techniques. This course is about what actually matters to employers and how you can develop the skills and qualities they value. You will learn how to take your experiences, extract what you’ve learned from them and present them in a way that would be attractive to an employer.

The course will help you to develop your employability, which is the set of achievements, skills, and personal attributes that make you attractive to an employer, so that you can successfully navigate the recruitment process and be effective in your job.

You will also have the chance to hear from employers discussing what they value when hiring new graduates. Some graduates who have transitioned successfully into the workplace will also share their thoughts on the subject of employability.

You'll learn how:

  • to understand what employability is and why it is important
  • to recognise opportunities for employability development
  • to apply self-reflective methods to interpret your experiences and connect them to your employability
  • to develop your communication skills to convey your potential to employers in the recruitment context
  • to convey your unique qualities and skills to potential employers in various employment contexts
  • to define professionalism and understand how to conduct yourself appropriately in the work environment
  • to prepare for the transition from university to your first job
  • to determine how to develop your employability throughout your career and understand the benefits of lifelong learning
  • to recognise the value of working globally.
