You will need fluent English in the post-graduate classroom, but even before that your English grammar skills will be tested during admission tests such as the TOEFL, IELTS or GMAT.

So, why don’t you take the free online self-paced course “English Grammar and Punctuation” presented by the University of California, Irvine?

About the Course

The course will help refresh some tools needed for good writing. It will prepare you for other courses connected with academic writing. You will need about 10 hours to complete this first course. Writing is a skill and to master a skill, you need to practise.

This course will teach you how to:

- identify the correct verb tenses to use

- use commas effectively

- utilise several different sentence types

- write more effectively in English.

The first week of the course is introductory, which means that your current grammar level will be evaluated. The second week is dedicated to Verb Tenses and Conjunctions with a review in the form of quizzes. The third week will be all about Compound and Complex Sentences and the last week is dedicated to everybody’s favourite Commas, Parallel Structure, and Sentence Variety, so prepare for many coma doubts during this one.
