Study throughout the week

Most people usually end up studying on Saturday afternoons, but the truth is if you study only once a week for several hours you won’t progress a lot. Your brain forgets what you have learnt a week ago, so don’t think you are doing yourself any favors by spending three hours studying over the weekend. Rather, spread your study throughout the week. Even if you study for an hour every day, it is still better than doing three or four hour study sessions only once or twice a week.

Diversify your practice

This is a good idea because on the test day you will have to switch from verbal mode to math mode every 30 minutes or so. This is why you want to be used to that in order to be as fast and productive as possible. If you diversify your practice and not focus exclusively on one section, you won’t be unpleasantly surprised or stressed out on the exam day and you will do a much better job.

Take a practice test at least once every 10 days

Why? The GRE is not just about conceptual understanding. Rather, it is about performance. So, take a practice test to see how well you perform and what your timing is. If you have issues with pacing, for instance, only a practice test can help you. If you take several practice tests before the exam you will have a much clearer view of your weaknesses and be able to work on them to become better. On the test day you will feel much more confident in your own abilities and ready to ace the GRE.
