With the recession in Europe in the recent years, the flow of students to MBA programs drastically declined. Even the prestigious European universities, offering MBA, struggled with filling their courses.

However, with the recovery of the economy on the old continent, the attractiveness of its business schools respectively rose. An advantage that universities in Europe certainly hold over their competitors abroad is that the students are much more geographically diverse. For example, at London Business Schools, 36 per cent of the graduates are from Europe; 27 per cent come from either South or North America and 28 per cent are from Asia and Australia.

"This is another reason why European schools often perform well in the “increase in salary” component in our ranking. At the top-ranked European school, IESE in Spain (pictured), many students leave relatively low paid jobs in South America and Asia, but land high-paying ones in cities such as London and Frankfurt once they have completed their MBA. Indeed the average IESE graduate can expect his salary to have increased by 153% upon leaving the programme."

In comparison to the universities in North America, some European MBA courses still fall behind in some key measures. For instance, the campuses and the career services are less developed than in North America. Also, students tend to score lower on the GMAT exam. In other parameters, like intakes, student: teacher ration and so on, the quality of European graduate schools is rather different, and not as much categorized as worse.
