IELTS is one of the most popular English language proficiency tests, recognised internationally. It has two versions, and you should consider the Academic one, not the General Training version if you are targeting post-graduate programmes.
What do IELTS results show?
Candidates receive scores on a band from 1 (Non User) to 9 (Expert User). Candidates receive a score for each test component – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The individual scores are then averaged and rounded to produce an Overall Band Score.
What is a good IELTS result?
If you are planning to apply for admission to an MBA or a Master’s programme, you should aim to achieve an IELTS result of at least 6.5. However, some universities may even require that your overall score is above 7.0
Which institutions accept IELTS results?
Universities, schools, training institutes, government bodies, multinational companies and employers are among the institutions which use IELTS results as evidence of individuals’ mastery of the English language. IELTS is accepted by more than 9,000 organisations in over 145 countries. You can sit for the IELTS in one of over 1,000 test centres in the world. More than 2.2 million IELTS tests are taken each year.

How to get your IELTS results?
Your test centre will post your Test Report 13 days after the test. You will only receive one copy of your Test Report Form, unless you are applying for a citizenship or immigration to Canada or the UK.
You can have copies of your Test Report Form automatically sent to five institutions free of charge. This helps streamline your application processes. Additional copies will incur a small administration charge.
How long is an IELTS result valid for?
Your IELTS result is valid for a recommended period of two years. The Test Repot Forms have inbuilt security measures and cannot be copied. Receiving institutions can also access a database to double-check your results.
Which IELTS section is the most challenging?
Based on the IELTS 2013 data, the hardest part of the IELS exam seems to be Writing (6,5). Test takers performed best on the Speaking (7,5) and Listening (7,5).
